Candace D. Patrick Candace D. Patrick (she/her) is an award-winning filmmaker born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She found her screenwriting passion through participation in the Scriptwriters Network High School Fellowship Program, which led her to earn her BA in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University. During her studies, she expanded her focus to directing and producing and developed her voice by focusing on stories that authentically depict human journeys.
Identifying as a queer, neurodivergent, matcha latte drinking LEGO enthusiast, Candace’s projects often explore grief and healing, mental health, finding joy, and debunking stereotypes. Candace’s latest project, "Finding JaMia's Spirit" earned her a selection as a 2023 Reel Sisters Micro Budget Film Fellow (screenplay) and the film which she also directed and produced, has screened as several prestigious festivals including Pan African Film Festival, Denton Black Film Festival, and it was awarded the Grand Prize “Best Short” award at the 2025 Believe Psychology Film Festival. Other notable work includes her acclaimed short film "The 5th Room," where she earned nominations for Best Director, Best Short, and Best Writer.
Candace has continued to hone her skills in filmmaking through fellowship and networking programs including Hillman Grad Mentorship writing courses (Lena Waithe), The People’s Film School (Rachel Raimist, DGA), and the Plenty of Pie Talent Incubator (Sasheen R. Artis, PGA). She is also a proud member of the Alliance of Women Directors.
Candace currently works as a Marketing Director for the study abroad program, Semester at Sea, a program she fell in love with while sailing as a student during the Spring 2007 Voyage. When not writing, Candace loves to travel, and fight with her cat, Nougat, for the most comfortable seat in her apartment. Nougat usually wins.
